Thanks for the site. Hard to find people that think outside the box.
This is a letter I have been sending around trying to get people to
think about a new system of democracy.
March 24 2018
Thanks to technology many parts of our world are changing for the
better. The exception is politics. No change for two hundred years. This
is the equivalent of a horse and buggy going down a busy freeway.
I would like influential people to buy into a very simple idea. Find
ways to promote a political upgrade that will strengthen democracy and
solve the plethora of problems our modern world is facing.
Democratic legitimacy ends after we elect our governments. We then use
imagined realities like parliamentary legitimacy, congressional
legitimacy, or judicial legitimacy. No one knows if there is a
democratic consensus of citizens who agree with the laws governments
produce. This ignorance separates citizens from their governments and
allows all manner of corruption and inefficiencies. Knowledge is power,
ignorance is weakness.
Imagine if you will, an app providing a political account; information
on which politician is using each citizen's POPA (piece of political
authority) on four levels of government municipal, state, federal and
also who is their UN delegate based on the citizens home address. At any
time the citizen can move their POPA to the politician who represents
their interests. This doesn't involve governments in any way, it simply
provides a percentage of consensus or the amount of democratic
legitimacy for each bill passed into law.
This is one of thousands of ideas that could give citizens a sense of
ownership and responsibility in the actual laws our governments produce.
The idea is to change the citizen not the government. As this open
platform matures, like social media, more citizens will join and the
percentage of consensus will become more important. The few noble
citizens (leaders like you) will multiply and in a century most of the
people who have no ownership or responsibility will be gone leaving
noble citizens who have ownerships and responsibility in law. For the
first time in history, on a global scale, by their numbers and
involvement, mothers, aunties, sisters, grandmothers, daughters and the
female side of humanity will have the power to shape law. People will
realize their responsibilities are global, because they can move their
POPA between UN delegates. Last year's Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to
ICAN a group that lobbied UN delegates to pass an international law
banning nuclear weapons. What would happen if one point seven billion
world citizens moved their POPA to delegates that wanted an
international law banning war? The UN will become a powerful world
government controlled by a global population.
Ask yourself, what is missing in the people you see when you walk down a
busy street? What would make these people whole and happy? What would
make them love the place where they live and the people they live with?
Jean Jacques Rousseau would say to be happy they must impose their own
In my case this realization has come from six decades of observing the
human condition starting with the nineteen-sixties dream of peace and
love. Realizing the problem lies with the system, not the politicians or
the government is the first step. Mother Jones would be more effective
in an environment of liberty and in a world where the laws governing
citizens are made by citizens.
This is my project.
